Five years after saving The Crown from developers wanting to convert it to apartments Daniel and Tracy Prince have put this Country Freehouse firmly back on the Real Ale drinker's map.
The Crown has now won 6 awards from CAMRA recognising the quality and variety of real ale on offer. Championing the craft of the countries micro breweries, the relentless pursuit of new beers and breweries means the Crown now features up 16 different beers per week. Over 3000 different beers have been sold each personally sampled by Daniel to ensure they are in excellent condition.
There are now 8 handpulls on the Bar with a wide range of styles and strengths. We'll always have one or two dedicated to The Prospect Brewery in Standish, there'll always be two handpulls dedicated to followers of dark ales, and one with an extreme beer (5.5%ABV+).
And that doesn't even touch on our range of 40 different bottled beers from around the world. And there's several members of staff happy to guide you through all the beers - and even offer suggestions of which beers go with which foods. Meeting Friends and Family – the meaning of life. The Balcarres Suite can hold up to 100 people and has its own private bar. The Lilac room is a private dining room off the main lounge. Both rooms are ideal for corporate and family celebrations, business meetings presentations and conferences. For every event, from weddings, to meetings or birthdays we can tailor make a package to suit your needs and budget. Come and talk to us.

Eating – we enjoy it. All our menu is freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients. Our Butchers Block steak counter is a unique way for you to create your own steak meal. We also have fresh fish and seafood on our specials board and fresh homemade pies that are very popular in these parts! Our menu is subject to availability, and we reserve the right to change any offer.
Lunches are served Weekdays from 12 Midday to 2.30 pm.
We serve Evening Meals Weekdays from 5.30 pm to 9.30pm.
We serve food from 12 Midday Saturdays until 9.30pm
And also 12 Midday Sundays until 8.30pm
Drinking – we take it seriously
Wigan and Leigh Camra Pub of the Year 2009 we have eight cask ales on the bar from the micro brewers across the country. We are now the official brewery tap for Prospect Brewery in Standish. We have an extensive wine list and a comprehensive beer menu. Plus a range of premium spirits and soft drinks. Sleeping – Sometimes sleeping runs in short supply, our 3 star Country Inn has 10 well appointed comfortable en-suite rooms at very reasonable rates. Close to the Motorways and many other towns and cities in the northwest the Crown is very popular with business travellers.
